The island of Sicily is a place of contrasts, from the crumbling grandeur of its capital, Palermo, to the Greek ruins at Syracuse, the craters of volatile Mount Etna, the chic resort of Taormina, undiscovered Catania, the Baroque town of Ragusa and the ancient Greek city Agrigento. Sicily's coasts are gold with orange and lemon orchards. In northeastern Sicily you'll find lush forests. Agrigento

Agrigento is a pleasant medieval town, set high on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean and the spectacular Valley of the Temples, a significant Greek site. The town, known as the land of the "Mandorlo in Fiore" (blossoming almond trees), was founded in the 5th century by Greek colonists, devastated 100 years after by the Carthaginians and then conquered by the Arabs. The other important monuments of Agrigento are the Cathedral, the Church of Saint Nicholas, which is now an Archeological Museum, the Church of “Santo Spirito “ and its Monastery.

Cefalù

Cefalù is a beautiful beachside village, which has become the premier destination on the Tyrrhenian coast. There are unspoilt medieval streets and historical sights, such as the marvellous Cathedral erected in 1131 with its precious mosaics, the Piraino Palace, as well as many other churches. There is also a good selection of restaurants and bars.

Palermo

Palermo is an extraordinary City to visit. It is a walking museum and has been conquered by the Greeks, the Romans, the Normans and the Arabs who transformed it in one of the most important commercial centres of the Mediterranean. All over the city are huge monuments such as the Cathedral (built in 1184), the Norman Churches, the beautiful ‘Palazzo dei Normanni’, the ‘Fontana Pretoria’ and the Neoclassical ‘Teatro Massimo’, one of the most enchanting theatres of Europe. The centre is lively and there is a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

Ustica

Ustica is a small and tranquil island 60km north of Palermo with a rocky coast and sparkling clean waters, ideal for diving and fishing. At Colombaia, you can still visit the remains of a large prehistoric village dating back to the Bronze Age. The main town has a pretty harbour and bay with a colourful square and quaint restaurants, the coastline has wonderful caves and submarine flora and fauna and the countryside has rolling hills and is peaceful.
